"hath not a (person with a disability) hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions? fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer, as a (typically developing person)? If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison us, do we not die?"
(adapted from Shylock's speech in The Merchant of Venice by Shakespeare)

Human rights are fundamental and universal existing independently of the laws and social norms of a country.

Every person is born equal, has the right to live freely and with dignity, without fear of torture and exploitation. But the fundamental rights of people with disabilities are denied every day.

Fundamental human rights are violated when on ground of disability, people are denied the right to access education or employment, are subjected to violence or are institutionalized against their will.

Equality of human rights demands the inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities in mainstream society.
